How to use SuperProfile’s Auto-DM Follow-Up Messages
SuperProfile’s Auto-DM feature allows creators to automate direct messages (DMs) when someone interacts with their content, such as commenting on a post, sending a DM, replying to a story, or commenting on a Live. A follow-up message is an additional DM that is automatically sent after the primary reply.
Follow-up messages are great for reminding users to take an action (e.g., download a free guide, subscribe, or reply), or to share more info after some delay. This guide explains how to set them up.
1. Navigate to Auto-DMs in your SuperProfile account
Log into your SuperProfile account and go to: https://superprofile.bio/creator/auto-dm
In the left sidebar under YOUR APPS, click Auto-DMs.
Click Create Automation at the top-right to begin.
2. Choose a trigger for your automation
In the "Trigger Auto-DM when someone..." popup, choose what user action will start the automation:
Comments on your Post/Reel
Sends you a message
Replies to your Story
Comments on your Live
Example: Select Sends you a message, then click Next.
3. Compose your primary message
On the next screen:
Write your Primary message (required, max 1000 characters)
(Optional) Toggle Ask for a follow before sending DM
(Optional) Toggle Collect email before sending DM
(Optional) Click Add a button to include a CTA that links to a product, lead magnet, store, or external site
Important: Follow-up messages can only be turned on if either: ✅ "Ask for a follow before sending DM" or ✅ "Collect email before sending DM" is enabled
This ensures the user has responded at least once, a requirement for sending multiple messages in a chat.
4. Add follow-up messages
To add a follow-up message:
Scroll down and click Add follow-up message
A new panel titled Follow up message #1 appears
Choose the condition:
After a time delay (e.g., send 1 hour later)
If no response is received (sends only if the user hasn’t replied within your time frame)
Set the time delay and units (minutes or hours)
Write the Follow-up message (required, max 1000 characters)
(Optional) Add a button with a link or CTA
To create more steps, click Add follow-up message again. Use the red trash icon to delete a follow-up step.
⚠️ Note -
SuperProfile can only send follow-up messages within 24 hours of the original primary message.
After 24 hours, we cannot send another message unless the contact replies again.
💡 PRO TIP -
Space your messages out so they feel helpful, not spammy.
You can use the “If no response is received” condition to skip follow-ups for already-engaged users.
5. Review and activate your automation
Click Next to review your automation
Give it a name and choose a colour tag
Review the trigger and all messages
Click Save & Activate to publish
Your automation is now live! You can monitor metrics and edit them anytime from the AutoDM dashboard.
