Learn about using Variables in AutoDM

This article explains everything about variables in AutoDM and how to use them.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What Are Variables?

Variables are placeholders that automatically fill in personalized information for each user you’re messaging. Instead of sending a one-size-fits-all message, variables allow you to make every DM feel custom-tailored to the recipient.

For example, instead of saying:

“Hey there! Thanks for connecting.”

You can say:

“Hey <NAME>, thanks for connecting!”

When the message is sent, <NAME> will automatically be replaced with the Instagram user’s actual name or username — making your AutoDMs feel more natural and engaging.

You can include variables inside your primary DM or any follow-up DMs to dynamically pull in user details collected by AutoDM.

Currently, SuperProfile supports three types of variables:

  1. NAME → Inserts the Instagram user’s IG name or username.

  2. EMAIL → Inserts the email ID collected from the user through AutoDM’s email collection feature. If you don't have the email already collected, the system will collect it automatically before sending the primary DM.

  3. THEIR FOLLOWER COUNT ON INSTAGRAM → Inserts the user’s current follower count from their Instagram profile.

These variables make your automated DMs feel more conversational and relevant — helping you build better connections and improve response rates.

How to use Variables in AutoDM?

Using variables in AutoDM is simple and intuitive. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. While setting up your AutoDM, go to either:

    • The Primary DM, or

    • Any Follow-up DM.

  2. Click on “Add a variable.”

  3. From the dropdown list, choose the variable you want to insert:

    • NAME

    • EMAIL

    • THEIR FOLLOWER COUNT

  4. Once selected, the variable will appear inside your message as a placeholder (for example, <NAME>).
You can insert it anywhere within your message text.

That’s it! 🎉
When the automation triggers, SuperProfile automatically replaces these placeholders with the real details of the Instagram user you’re chatting with.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Available only on Paid Plans:
Variables are only available for creators on the Creator Plan and Pro Plan.
They are not available on the Free (Starter) Plan.

  • When Follow-Check is Disabled:
If you’ve added variables to your DMs but have not enabled the Follow-Check feature, you’ll need to send a Conversation Starter DM first.
This message acts as an opt-in that opens up the Instagram 24-hour messaging window.
Without sending this initial message, AutoDM won’t be able to send personalized messages containing variables.
