Turn a link or a QR code into a “tap here to get my message” shortcut. When someone opens it, Messenger starts a chat with your Facebook Page and your DM sends automatically — perfect for bios, emails, and printed materials.

What you’ll build
A Referral Link / QR automation gives you a special link — an m.me link — and a matching QR code. When someone taps the link or scans the code, Messenger opens a chat with your Page and automatically sends the DM you set up. Because the person opened the conversation themselves, your DM lands in their main inbox — no Message Requests detour, and no “tap to receive” step needed.
A referral automation generates a shareable m.me link with a one-tap Copy URL button.
How the link and QR work
An m.me link is Facebook’s shortcut for “open a Messenger chat with this Page.” AutoDM attaches your automation to that link, so opening it does two things at once: it starts a chat with your Page, and it triggers your DM. The QR code is just a scannable version of the same link — ideal for anything physical, like a flyer, packaging, or a stall sign.
Unlike comment-to-DM and incoming-message, this trigger doesn’t use keywords. The action that fires it is simply opening the link or scanning the code.
Before you start
Connect your Facebook Page. You’ll need a Page connected to AutoDM, and you must be an admin of that Page. (See Connect your Facebook Page.)
Know where you’ll share it. Bio, link-in-bio, an email, or a printed item — this shapes whether you’ll mainly use the link, the QR code, or both.
Have your message ready. The DM text and any button link.
Step-by-step
Open AutoDM and start a new automation
Go to AutoDM in your SuperProfile dashboard and click Create Automation (top-right). When asked which platform this automation is for, choose Messenger.
Choose the “Referral Link / QR code” trigger
Pick the trigger Referral Link / QR code. This tells AutoDM to generate a link and QR code that send your DM when opened.
Write your DM and add a button
This is the message someone receives the moment they open your link or scan your code. Write a warm welcome and, if you like, add a button that links to your product, page, or booking link.
You can also choose the DM type:
Text + Button — a message with an optional link button (most common).
Image / Video — lead with a visual.
Card — an image, title, and subtitle with a button.
Voice message — a personal audio note.
4. (Optional) Add follow-up messages or a time delay
You can add follow-up messages that send after a time delay, and you can set a time delay before the first message. On Messenger, follow-ups are timer-based — “after a time delay.”
5. Review and launch
You’ll see a summary of the flow — the trigger, your DM, any follow-ups, and any delay. Read it through, then click Confirm & launch. You’ll get a “Messenger Automation Launched!” confirmation, and the automation appears in your AutoDM list.
6. Copy your link and download your QR code
Once it’s live, open the automation to find your m.me link and QR code. Copy the link or download the QR image to start sharing.
Where to share it
This is where a referral automation shines — the same link works almost anywhere:
Your bio — on Facebook, Instagram, or any profile that allows a link.
Your link-in-bio page — add it alongside your other links.
Emails and newsletters — a “Message us on Messenger” button or footer link.
Printed and physical materials — put the QR code on flyers, packaging, business cards, event signage, or a stall display so people can scan and chat instantly.
✅ Tips for better results
Pair the link with a clear call to action: “Scan for your discount” or “Tap to get the guide.”
For print, leave enough white space around the QR code so cameras can read it.
Keep the first DM short and welcoming — put the detail behind the button.
Frequently asked
Will the DM go to Message Requests like comment-to-DM does?
No. Because the person opens the chat themselves by tapping the link or scanning the QR, your DM lands in their main inbox. The Message Requests folder only affects messages your Page starts on its own.
Do I need to add keywords?
No. The referral trigger fires when someone opens the link or scans the code — there are no keywords to set.
Can I use the same link in more than one place?
Yes. One automation’s link and QR code can go in your bio, your emails, and on printed materials all at once. Every open sends the same DM.
